Floors R Us

Lately, I feel like when anyone asks me the question, "What are ya'll doing this weekend?"  I automatically think, "Well, we really need to be working on the floors."  I mean, these floors have really taken over our lives in more ways than one.  However, after many late nights of working and with the help of some awesome people, WE ARE FINALLY FINISHED! (and by we I mean Steven, of course ;)

Below are some pictures of the process.
The beginning of our flooring journey.  Notice Steven is super smiley.  He had no idea what he was getting in to, for sure.

Still working...

Dining room (almost complete)

Haha.  This is definitely my favorite pic from the whole process. I think they were delirious at this point.
Happy to be finished with the dining room :)

Okay, I only have one picture of the living room before pic (previous owner's stuff).

The pictures below are our house now.  We painted, pulled up carpet, and put down African Mahogony flooring.  It is definitely still a work in process, but we have had a lot of fun with the updates so far! I love light and airy rooms. They make me feel peaceful.

As you can see, our dining room is still completely empty.  Steven is going to build me a table out of old tobacco barn wood, which is sort of a replica of the one we love from Restoration Hardware.  Updates on that project still to come.

This is a picture of the hallway.

Hallway from the front door.  Notice the totally rad shag carpeting on the staircase.  It previously extended throughout the entire hallway.  Someday soon, we will tear up the carpet up the stairs and replace it with same African Mahogany flooring...someday...
We are so excited to have our own place.  We love to tackle new projects and learn as we go.  Next stop, updating the downstairs bathroom :)

"shrubbin' around"

When we moved in our front yard needed serious help.  I mean, they were "growing" shrubs in pots.  Not ideal.  However, I have found out the hard way that I do not have much of a green thumb, so we decided to enlist our local FFA/horticulture expert (a.k.a. Conner).  This is our front pathway before.

When the Meadows came to visit us last month, we were quick to accept Conner's help with the flont planter.  One afternoon while they were visiting, we made a quick trip to town where Conner schooled us on the different varieties of bushes.  Who knew there were so many different options???  We ended up going with a low maintenance shrub that Conner suggested.

Below are a couple of pictures of the Meadows boys working into the wee hours of the night (well, actually more like 7:15 but who's counting).  They all worked really hard, and I was so happy to get this project started!  And Conner, you were my local hero that day for sure ;)

Here is the after.  The shrubs are still little babies, but it is leaps and bounds better than what we had before.  I am so happy with the way it turned out.  Later this month, we plan on planting some flowers on the sides of the porch, which should add a little pop of color.

P.S.  Steven is mad at me for posting this picture because there are weeds by the sidewalk...Believe me, he's been busy on flooring.

New Cabinet Hardware

Hi everyone!  This small kitchen update isn't a huge deal, but we really think that the little details mean the most sometimes (plus my sisters wanted to see this, so I posted).

On an earlier blog this was an after pic, but here it serves as a before.

And After: The kitchen cabinets with new silver hardware.  Like I said--not a huge change, but we think it gives the cabinets a little somthin' somthin' :)

Our house is feeling more and more like a home every day!
